Is your social media out of sync with your customers?

Social media is everyone’s darling—especially marketers. But the truth is, sometimes marketers are quicker to embrace new marketing tools (think QR codes) before consumers do.

A recent Pitney Bowes Software survey of adults in the US, UK, France, Germany and Austria who use the internet (whew!) revealed that marketers need to align their social media actions with the actions of the consumers. For example, while 53% of consumers are active on YouTube, only 41% of marketers can be found there. This is a real missed opportunity. Moreover, 57% of marketers report using Twitter, but only 31% of consumers are there. Simply put, you need to know what platforms your customers and their friends are using and using frequently. That’s where you need to be.

It’s also important to make sure your offers and content are congruent with your business goals, as well as with the likely behavior of your target. Make your offers compelling (yet realistic) and you should generate significant business results.
